The Changing Nature of the Food Industry 2018

The PORCH Society’s 2018 summit brought together non-governmental organizations, private foundations, and for profit enterprises to explore global food challenges and the changing nature of the food industry.

The two day event focused on the nexus of these for profit and not for profit organizations in addressing global food challenges.  Participants discussed the most important trends and developments that will shape food and agriculture and related businesses over the next ten to fifteen years.  The conversation fostered a cross-pollination of ideas and new perspectives.

In the interest of ensuring safe and nutritious food into the future and for a growing global population, the group explored the implications or opportunities of those important trends and developments.  Special attention was paid to the similarities and differences between international development work and initiatives in rural communities across America.

Attendees included leaders and doers representing The World Food Prize, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Walmart Foundation, Sosland Publishing, Mercaris, The Melting Pot Foundation, Global Child Nutrition Foundation, Tanager, Boulevard Brewing, Ripple Glass, JP Morgan and the World Bank.

Future work will continue to explore the nexus of these different groups in addressing food and agriculture challenges throughout rural communities.
